What is a Low Shedding Lab?
A low shedding lab in a lab that carries BOTH possible copies of the low shedding gene. Genetic researchers have identified the genes responsible for shedding. It is estimated that only approximately 4% of Labs carry 1 copy of the low shedding gene, while less than 1% carry both copies. It is extremely rare. To arrive at this point, we have invested a significant amount of time and money to genetically test 61 labs from 2012 - 2020. As we continue to expand our low-shedding line, the investment continues.
What is a moderate Shedding Lab?
A Moderate shedding lab carries only 1 of 2 possible low shedding genes.
What is a High Shedding Lab?
A High shedding lab comprises the majority of the Labrador Retriever Population. This lab carries NO copies of the low shedding gene. The Labrador Retriever breed is considered a high shedding breed.

Our Experience
We started our Low Shedding Lab program with our 1st low shedding lab, "Y", pictured above. Low Shedding Labs will still shed, but light relative to the other 96% of the Lab population. Y sheds about 80% less than our other labs and overall has a much thinner coat. If you use the Furminator for 5-10 minutes a month on our Low Shedding Labs, the results could be a virtually light shedding lab.

The term "low" & "moderate" shed are RELATIVE to this HIGH SHEDDING breed. They will especially shed 1-2 x a year depending where you live, most often you will notice they will lose their winter blow coat in the spring. Grooming makes a BIG difference. At around 5 weeks in age, you will receive tips on how to keep dander and shedding to a minimum.
