Rearing Happy, Healthy, Labs: Our Puppy Rearing Process

Your Labrador Retriever Puppy's Journey with Us

We take pride in raising happy, healthy Labrador Retriever puppies. Here's a glimpse into how we care for your future furry friend from the very beginning:

Weeks 1-4: A Time for Mom and Pups to Bond

  • Cozy Beginnings: Our expecting mothers have a designated whelping area designed for their comfort and the safety of their pups. This private space is kept clean, with fresh bedding changed daily to introduce the concept of cleanliness from day one.
  • The Big Day: Around 6 weeks of gestation, mama dog starts nesting to prepare for the arrival of her litter. We typically see puppies arrive around day 60. Within days of birth, we announce the exciting news and share pictures.
  • Sight, Sound, and Sibling Fun: By week 3, your pup's senses start developing. They can see, hear, and interact with their littermates. This period is crucial for their social development as their personalities begin to emerge.

Weeks 4-6: Weaning and Independence

  • Natural Weaning: Around week 4, mom starts the natural weaning process. She might stand up while feeding or move away when puppies try to nurse.
  • Energy Spikes: Week 5 brings a surge of energy! Your pup becomes more active and playful.
  • Weaning Complete: By week 6, most puppies are fully weaned and don't rely on their mother for milk.

Week 7: Choosing Your Perfect Match

  • Personality Test: At 7 weeks, we conduct temperament and aptitude tests to understand each puppy's personality. The results are then posted on our Facebook page.
  • Making Your Pick: After temperament & aptitude testing is complete, you'll get to choose your puppy! Selection is based on collar color.

Going Home:

Your purebred Labrador Retriever puppy will be ready to join your loving home at 7-8 weeks old. We recommend being well-prepared for their arrival. Check out our "Next Steps & Checklist" for helpful tips on getting ready for your new furry family member.
